This is the Part of the site where you will be able to download the Programme and Jaws scripts you will need for the Mud Games

I will firstly place the links for you to obtain the files you need and then will give an explanation of what you need to do to install the programme and scripts.

Click Here for the GMud Game File

Once you have the GMud32 Programme, you will need to install it on your computer, please just follow the install defaults and this will be done quickly.

Jaws Script files

The script files provided are given by James Knight in the USA for which I thank him.

Although These scripts are labeled Jaws 7, they will work with later versions as well.

Please unzip the file provided and then place onto your clipboard and then paste them into the jaws enu folder for the version of jaws that you wish to use.  Then restart jaws and the mud game should then speak to you.

Once the install is done, you will need to fill in the connection details.  Go into your programme files and select the GMud32 programme and OK the initial message that comes up.  Now pres alt F for files and then C for connect, tab to the add button and fill in the following details.  The name of the World is dentin,, fill this in where it says name of the world and tab to Ok and press space bar.   The Host name is dentinmud.org and the port is 3010.  You should then tab across to connect and you will find that you can connect.  If you have a fire wall or router that is blocking you from doing so, allow the programme or open port 3010.

Sound files for GMud

James Knight also kindly provided some sound files that can be added to GMud to allow faster understanding of how a situation such as a battle is developing before it is too late and you die before knowing it.  These files, once installed in GMud, can be used in VIP Mud for similar effect.  I will also upload the files as a folder so that anyone who starts with VIP Mud can still take advantage of them.

To install the files in GMud:

1. unzip the Sounds.gtp file and then copy it to the clipboard.

2. go into my computer and to your C drive, from there go to programme files and once in there choose GMud32.

3. once in this folder, paste the file on the clipboard in there.

4. now go into the GMud game via the desktop or through the menus in the normal manner.

5. pres Alt and F for files and go to import sound pack.

6. once you enter on this option, tab once and there will be a list of any available files.  Choose the sounds.gtp file and then tab across to OK.

7. you should receive a message saying that the file has been imported.

8. once this is done, go into the Edit menu and choose worlds.

9. Tab across to change trigger set, and press the button.

10. tab to the list view and choose the file that will say something like sounds or sounds1., now tab to OK.

11. tab across the dialogue boxx that reappears and go to OK again.

This should now have installed the sound files for you in GMud.

VIP Mud client

This is a brand new client provided by GMA Games which allows people with other screen readers than Jaws to be able to access the playing of mud games.  Instal the programme to it's defaults and then you will need to connect.

When first installed, the programme is in demo mode, but to use it fully, after the 30 day trial, you will need to purchase the programme.

OK the messages that appear and go into the programme itself, you will see a screen that has a default character there, but you will need to creat a character here.

Tab across until you find a button that says manual quick connect.  press this button and a list of Muds will appear.  choose Alter Aeon Dentin Mud.  tab across and you will find the host name and port number filled in.  Press the connect button here and you should be connected to the world.

Installing the sound files for this programme is easier, simply open the folder of sound files and press control and A to select all and then copy them to the clipboard.  Now go into the VIP mud folder via my computer and go to the sounds folder and enter on that.  Now paste in the files you have on your clipboard and they will be available.  The use of these sounds will be a subject for another section on this page.

Creating a character

Once connected to Alter Aeon, you will need to creat a new character if you do not have one already.

firstly type the word new and enter, this will let the game know that you are creating a brand new character.

You will firstly be asked for the name you would like to use for the character, please choose one that is not too long so that others can type it easily, around 8 characters seems to be acceptable.

you will now be asked for a password, choose one and you will then be asked to enter it again to make sure it is correct.

you will be asked if you are blind and using a screen reader programme, if this is the case, enter Y for yes.

The game then asks you about using a low spam mode, this is unusual for mud games but was especially used in this game to help blind players.  Enter yes if you wish to use this.  It is highly recommended that you do, as this helps enormously keeping up with the information being sent to you by the Mud.

Now we come to creating the actual character you will use.  Firstly you will be asked for the class you wish to play.  The classes available are:

mage         - These are, Spellcasters, wizards, and warlocks

cleric       - These are Healers, priests, and druids

thief        - These are Thieves, pickpockets, and scouts

warrior      - These are Fighters, barbarians, and mercenaries

Choose the class you would prefer to play, or none if you would like to decide later.

You will then be asked to select if you are male or female.  This has no other purpose than to call you he or she to others on the game, so choose which ever you like.

You will be asked to enter an email address, this is so that you can obtain your password if forgotten, so it is advisable to do so.

The game then asks you if this is your first character and if you answer yes, you will be asked to let them know where you heard about them.  If you answer no, you will be given a warning about multiplaying, this is using more than one character at a time in the game.  This is strictly not allowed on this mud and is jumped on very quickly.  there are exceptions, where characters need to exchange equipment or gold, but you are asked to do this as quickly as possible and then to log off one of the characters.

You will now be given options on where you would like to begin the game.  The first is in the mud school and the second is to use the quest system.

If you want to know the advantages and disadvantages of either, press number 3 and the game will explain the difference between the 2.

Choose the option you prefer and you will be launched into the game.

Note: please be aware that you must gain one level before you leave the game or your character will be lost.
